Soloists “wow” the crowd at the Nativity Festival

The First United Methodist sanctuary was full for the Community Christmas Concert that was part of Habitat for Humanity’s Nativity Festival last Sunday.

Music was provided by choirs from First Presbyterian, Central Christian and First United Methodist Church. A duet of sisters Maureen Bowkowski and Angie Pedersen sang “Prayers for Home” and Borkowski’s original song “Can I Hold the Baby, Mary?” The Ordinary Cowboys (aka Curt Nelson and Dave Harding) changed up the program with humor and a sing-along.

A pair of soloists, both of them All-State musicians, provided high points for the afternoon.

Greene County High School junior David Petersen, a member of the All-State Chorus in 2013 and 2014, sang “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Travis Graven, a 1997 East Greene graduate who was twice selected for the All-State Chorus  and is now a producer at Iowa Public Television, sang early in the program and closed the program with “Mary Did You Know?” and “O Holy Night.”

Keri Brooker accompanied both Petersen and Graven.
